Dudley wins Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year title

Castrol pro sets sights on Forrest Wood Cup

FLW Outdoors 11.Jul.2008 DETROIT – David Dudley of Lynchburg, Va., added to his already impressive list of career accomplishments by winning the Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year title Friday at the Wal-Mart FLW Tour’s final 2008 qualifier, the Chevy Open on the Detroit River, Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair.

Although this is Dudley’s first Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year title, his pro bass-fishing résumé is extensive. In fact, Dudley owns the FLW Outdoors career earnings record with more than $2.3 million in winnings. He was the youngest angler in history to surpass the $1 million

milestone, a feat he accomplished in 2002 at 26 years old, and the $2 million milestone, a mark he pass in 2006 at the age of 30. Additionally, Dudley boasts five victories – two FLW Tour, including the Forrest Wood Cup, one Wal-Mart FLW Series, one Stren Series and the Ranger M1.

“I’ve achieved the FLW Outdoors grand slam,” said Dudley following Friday’s weigh-in. “I’ve been at this for 14 years, and I’ve won at every level in the professional ranks. Now I can add Angler of the Year to the list, and to me, that’s the most important.” Read More....

Dudley Comes From Behind To Win First Career AOY

Friday, July 11, 2008
- In an unexpected turn of events, Virginia pro David Dudley clinched his first FLW Tour Angler of the Year (AOY) title a little over an hour ago at the Detroit River.

Dudley wasn't even considered to be on the radar to claim the title coming into this event. He climbed up to 3rd place in the AOY standings after finishing in 66th place on day 1, but even then it looked like a long shot that he'd make up the 60-plus points needed to overtake new leader Bryan Thrift.

But Thrift lost traction today and plummeted to 105th, which left the door wide open for the opportunistic Dudley, who's 17-00 day 2 limit hoisted him up to 38th place and into the top spot in the 2008 AOY points race.

The Castrol pro’s wife, Angela, and their children – Mason (4), Anna (3), Vance (2) and Nina (10 months) travel to most events with him, so long days on the water end with lots of affection from a quartet of little ones who climb all over Daddy and help him break down tackle (Nina doesn’t do this quite yet).

Angela said Vance is the one most smitten with his father’s profession: “He can say about five words, and one of them is ‘fish.’ Whenever he sees water, he says ‘fish'.” Notably, Vance was snoozing in Nina’s stroller when his dad won all the marbles at Knoxville. Dudley, hailing from Lynchburg, Va., didn’t seem to mind. In fact, he insisted that a family member bring the drowsy toddler to the stage so he could be part of the moment. Read More

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – In the sport of professional fishing, some things cannot be explained by words alone: David Dudley is one of those things.

The Lynchburg, Va., native has proven time and time again that he is a closer.

Simply put, Dudley excels when it matters most. He trusts in his faith, focuses all of his faculties on fishing and taps into his natural instincts to get the winning job done.

For the fifth time in his FLW Outdoors career, Dudley closed again Sunday, coming from some 4 ½ pounds back to win the Wal-Mart FLW Tour event on Fort Loudoun-Tellico lakes with a two-day total of 29 pounds, 11 ounces worth $125,000. Read More

Dudley Doesn't Know

About his comparatively lighter weight today, Dudley struggled to nail down a cause.

"I knew within my first 10 casts that something wasn't right," he said. "When I got to my hole, there were 25 people waiting for me to get to the hole, and 25 people following me to the hole. So did anything happen beforehand? I don't know. All I know is something wasn't right when I got there. Why that is, I don't know.

"I'm not accusing anybody of fishing my hole or anything," he added. "I just know something wasn't right and I had to scrounge around today and work hard to come up with what I did."

He hit his hole a couple of different times throughout the day, but he didn't camp. "I felt like I could move around, and that's what I did." Read More
